Awareness and Fitment Camp of Assistive Devices

Introduction:

We are pleased to report the successful completion of our Awareness and Assessment Camp on Prosthetics & Orthotics held in Mysore. The event, supported by RLHP and organized by ABLE , brought together 77 participants, including children, community health workers, parents, and other community members.

Here’s a brief glimpse of the program:

Awareness Camp on the Importance of Assistive Devices:

The Awareness Camp aimed to educate the community on the importance and need for assistive devices. The session, led by Siddhartha and Geethavathi, provided insights into prosthetic and orthotic devices, particularly focusing on common deformities in children. Sixty participants, including community health workers and parents, actively engaged in discussions, learning about the significance of early intervention and the role of assistive devices in improving mobility and quality of life.

Trial, Fitment, and Assessment Camp:

Seventeen participants attended the Assessment Camp, where evaluations were led by

Siddhartha. During the session:

Devices Provided:

  • Four MCR Slippers
  • One Medial Arch Support
  • One Below-Knee Prosthesis

Measurements and Casting:

Measurements were taken for MCR Slippers and Arch Support cases.

Follow-up Referrals:

Eleven participants were referred to specialists, including orthopaedic doctors, neurosurgeons, and physiotherapists for further care.

Device Fitment:

  • Trials were conducted for the Below-Knee Prosthesis, Bilateral CTEV AFO, and three MCR Slippers.

Successfully delivered:

  • One Below-Knee Prosthesis
  • One Bilateral CTEV AFO
  • Three MCR Slippers

Outcome:

Awareness Camp:

  • 60 new participants engaged in the awareness sessions.
  • Enhanced understanding of prosthetic and orthotic devices and their role in addressing physical deformities and improving mobility.

Assessment Camp:

  • Seventeen participants received comprehensive assessments, personalized evaluations, and interventions.
  • Participants with specific needs were provided with assistive devices, including the Below-Knee Prosthesis, Bilateral CTEV AFO, and MCR Slippers.

Devices Delivered:

  • One Below-Knee Prosthesis, one Bilateral CTEV AFO, and three MCR
  • Slippers were successfully delivered to improve the mobility of the recipients.

Next Steps:

  • Conduct additional Awareness and Assessment Camps with a focus on measurements, fitments, and device distribution.
  • Distribute a second round of assistive devices to children and individuals with disabilities.
  • Organize follow-up sessions to assess the impact of the devices and gather feedback from participants.
  • Collaborate with specialists for continuous support and improvement in mobility and independence for all beneficiaries.

This report highlights ABLE’s ongoing commitment to empowering individuals with the tools and knowledge necessary to lead independent and fulfilling lives. The camp marked a significant step in raising awareness and delivering essential assistive devices to those in need, enhancing their overall quality of life.
