Assessment Camp on Prosthetics and Orthotics

Overview 

On October 29, 2024, ABLE, in collaboration with Wisdom Special School-Mysuru and 

UNILOG, organized a successful Assessment Camp on Prosthetics & Orthotics in Mysore, Karnataka. The camp aimed to provide comprehensive evaluations and tailored interventions to empower individuals with mobility challenges. The event saw active participation from 34 individuals, including children, health workers, teachers, and parents.

Resource Persons

  • Dr. Sachin Patel (Orthopedic Doctor, Assistant Professor, Dr. Chandramma Dayanand Sagar Medical College) 
  • Siddhartha Sankar Tripathy (P&O, ABLE) 
  • Geethavathi (P&O Technician, ABLE) 

Participants

  • A total of 34 participants attended the camp for personalized assessments and tailored recommendations. 

Assistive Devices Provided 

Measurements and casting were conducted for: 

  • Three Bilateral (B/L) AFOs with Knee Gaiters 
  • One CTEV AFO 
  • One B/L AFO with Cock-Up Splint 
  • One B/L Insole 
  • Four Medial Arch Supports 
  • One Full Rise 
  • Total Assistive Devices: 
  • 28 assistive devices were provided to 11 patients requiring specific interventions. 

Recommendations

For the remaining 23 participants, the medical team recommended:

  • Medications
  • Referrals to neurosurgeons and physiotherapists for advanced care.

Impact of the Camp

Enhanced Accessibility:
The camp addressed cases requiring specialized prosthetic and orthotic devices, ensuring participants’ specific needs were met effectively.

Personalized Care:
Comprehensive assessments provided participants with tailored interventions, helping them improve their mobility and independence.

Next Steps

To further strengthen our impact, ABLE plans to:

  • Conduct Awareness and Fitment Camps: Organize camps for raising awareness, performing assessments, and fitting assistive devices.
  • Distribute Initial Assistive Devices: Provide support to children and individuals with disabilities.
  • Host Feedback Sessions: Evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and ensure continuous improvement for beneficiaries.
